I work from photographs to complete your bespoke portrait, therefore, I can’t stress
enough the importance of good reference photos to draw from. The more detail in
reference photos, the more detail that I’m able to capture in my drawing.

I have a few guidelines which really help in the completion of the portrait, and help me to produce the highest quality of work.

Ideally if you could send 5 high quality photos of your pet, in good natural lighting. This allows me to see your pet from a few different angles and allows me to cross reference to ensure the detail is correct. Please make sure that no part of the animal is cropped from the photo i.e the ears are all in the photograph. I find so much of the personality in the eyes, so please make sure they are clear, along with any other defining features. Another thing which is important when thinking about reference photos is to make sure that the photographs capture your pets personality, so this comes across in the drawing.

If you would like a multiple subject portrait it is usually best to send individual photographs for me to work into once piece, I know how hard it is to get pets to pose together for a photo!

If you have any questions about reference photos, I am more than happy to look through a number and we can discuss the best ones to use for your portrait.

"I'm so happy with both of the commissions I've received from Laura - the time and effort she puts into her work is clear in the finished products! Both commissions were gifts for family members, they were chuffed to receive such a unique and thoughtful present of their pets! I'd highly recommend if looking for a high quality pet portrait - Laura sends progress pictures throughout and is happy to make any changed if needed. 100% recommend!

"I had two portraits of my dogs done for my birthday. Laura captured their personalities perfectly and the detail was amazing. I have no hesitation in recommending Laura for any custom/ bespoke animal portraits."

"I asked Laura to do two portraits for me as Christmas presents. One for my auntie who had recently lost her St. Bernard, Ruby and one for my parent of our pet Miniature Schnauzer, Millie. I gave my auntie hers and she cried and cried. Tears of happiness of course, as she couldn't believe the likeness. As for my parents, again they were overwhelmed with the portrait of Millie and it is even more special to us all now as we sadly lost her four months later. Every time we walk into the living room we still get greeted with Millie because of Laura's amazing artwork! Thank you!"

"I asked Laura to draw a portrait of my cat who passed away for my dad and she did an absolutely fabulous job! Kept me updated with its progress, no problems with delivery and clearly put in extraordinary amounts of effort in with detail. Would definitely request more portraits in the future."

- Holly

"We commissioned Laura to draw our two cats for a Christmas present. Laura Mary Art provide a good, courteous service with beautiful drawings that are incredibly true to life."

- Philippa

"I asked for both of my cats to be done by Laura, and I couldn't be happier with the results. They are genuinely more life like than photos and has a much more personal feel about them. Working for a large animal charity, I've seen many examples of different artists works for pet animals, but this was by far the site with the highest standard. Couldn't recommend it more."
